The law authorises the tenant to leave their accommodation on the date they want, on the condition that they give notice of departure 3 months beforehand. However, the tenant benefits from needing to give notice reduced to 1 month beforehand, when they find themselves in the following situations:

Tight market area

Tenants of accommodation located in a tight market area have the right to a notice period reduced to one month, and this whenever the date of signing their lease agreement.

Furnished rental

The notice period is also one month for a furnished rental, including as part of a one-month student lease agreement.

Procedure

The notice letter is a document which must compulsorily be sent to your landlord/landlady. All you need to do is indicate that you want to leave your accommodation, specifying its address, the date of the notice letter and the date of departure (see the example). An acknowledgement receipt is compulsory in order to justify what you are doing, in the event where there would be any consequent issues.

Please note, make sure you are aware that once you have sent your notice letter to your property owner or to your landlord/landlady, you can no longer go back on your decision.
